The Dream Series is HAPPENING!!!

With last night's exciting victory of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Kansas City Royals have punched their ticket back to the World Series to face the New York Mets! I post a blog earlier this week about the possibility of this series and couldn't be happier to see my two favorite team play for the title.  I still want the Royals to take home the World Series trophy, it would be really great to witness a game in person!

Topeka Halloween Activities!

I've always loved Halloween and since the birth of my daughter, that love has been taken up a couple notches. I really like the various all ages activities available in Topeka.  I've included a small list of events that my family plans to attend. Hope you have a great and safe Halloween!

A possible Dream Series of the Royals vs the Mets!

As I type this, my Kansas City Royals just pummeled the Toronto Blue Jays 14 - 2, taking a 3-1 series lead.  My New York Mets are about to start NLCS Game three against the Chicago Cubs, the Mets have a 2 - 0 series lead.  At this rate, the 2015 World Series will be between my two favorite teams!  I've been a Royals fan for as long as I can remember and a Mets fan for almost as long.  Growing up watching George Brett, Frank White, Bo Jackson along with Darryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden, and Keith Hernandez among with many many others filled my baseball highlights and baseball binders.  While I've easily been able to catch games at The K, I was truly blessed to able to attend a game at Citi Field in 2012 with my brother Chris!  It was an awesome site to be among the history and artifacts of the Mets just as I've been able to at the Royals Hall of Fame.  It would be a dream series indeed but it would an even bigger dream if the Royals were to win it all!
I started a baseball themed photo series back in 2011 and the first two teams I shot were of course, the Royals and the Mets!  Hopefully I'll restart this series soon!

John Lewis & "March"

Today, I had the great pleasure to attend a special assembly with Congressman John Lewis of Georgia, along with the co- writer and illustrator of Lewis' graphic novel "March"at Washburn University's Lee Arena.  I had learned that Congressman Lewis was in Topeka last night and spoke at Washburn's White Concert Hall and was disappointed that I was unable to attend.  To my great fortune and surprise; my building principal, Dr Beryl New, offered me an opportunity to not only attend the assembly but to photograph it as well!  As a long time student history, I've held a great fondness for members of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Their struggle and sacrifice paved the way for all Americans. Congressman Lewis is particularly interesting as he joined the ranks at a very early age, even speaking at the March on Washington at the young age of 23.  His message, along with the messages of Andrew Aydin ("March" co writer) and Nate Powell ("March" illustrator) were very uplifting and a compete joy to listen to.

Ready for GAMETIME!

#ForeverRoyal

Earlier this evening (10-14-15) my daughter put on her Royals jersey and got her mini bat as we prepared to watch the game.  She fell asleep by the third inning, so she's missed the big comeback that has happened! (I'm writing this before the top of the 7th inning so I hope they hold this lead!!!)
